Mogadishu, 17 January 2018: The Ministry of Information, Culture & Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia has today re-launched the Madbacadda Football Team. The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, H.E. Abdirahman Omar Osman has announced the launch at a ceremony in Mogadishu.
The ceremony was also participated by the deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, H.E. Abdirahman Idan Yonis, Deputy minister of Youth and Sports, Ahmed Omar Islow, Chairperson of Somali Football Federation, Members of the Somali Football Federation, Madbacadda Football Team, the Manager of National Printing Agency, members of the media and the Public.
The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism said that re-building Somalia starts with the youth and sport which can be a useful entry point for social development as it is a great tool to mobilize, empower and engage young people to do just that.
“The ministry is excited that it finally completes a long processes and the great efforts by many to ensure the Madbacadda Football Team is in full operation and is joining the next Premiership (Seria A) tournament soon to begin in Mogadishu. We are grateful to all those who participated in this endeavour. We expect the team to be disciplined, skilful and be an example of teamwork. Football builds discipline and encourages Familyhood. the fans of the Team will be the media and as well as members of the public who will support the Team’s skill based games”. Said H.E. The Minister congratulated the Somali Football Federation (SFF) for leading and work-ing with the ministry in the re-establishment of Madbacadda Football Team which the ministry aims to show that the Federal Government is engaged in the sports and partic-ipation in social activities in order to get closer to the public and discouraging the youth to get involved in extremism.
Madbacadda Football Team which represents the National Printing Agency under the auspices of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism has not been in service for over 28 years. The Chairperson of Madbacadda Football Team, speaking at the re-launching ceremony said that they built a team that is skilful and he expects to do well in the Somali Seria A Tournament to begin soon in Mogadishu. He added that it is great opportunity to represent the Ministry of Information and promised the team to be dis-ciplined and draw large fans with their skill and discipline.
The Chairperson of Somali Football Federation (SFF), Abdiqani Said Arab said that it is a historical moment to witness the occasion which is a culmination of years of efforts which begun in 2015. “We are grateful to Minister H.E. Eng. Yarisow to make this happen. Sports plays a great part in ensuring community cohesion and encourages social development. We are thankful to the Federal Government in particular the Ministry of Information which re-established the Madbacadda Football Team. We encourage the remaining ministries which previously had teams to also do the same.” Said Chairperson of SFF.
The Chairman of Somali Football Federation, Abdiqani Said Arab, the Director General of Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Abdirahman Yusuf Omar “Adaalla” and the Chairman of Madbacadda Football Team, Omar Mohamud Nur “Mugabe” have together signed the deal to re-establish the Team in the Seria A of Somali Football Tournament in Mogadishu.
The Madbacadda Football Team was first established in 1976 and had won the Champions Cub in 1983 and cups in other tournaments. The Team was very well known with their unparalleled skill and had drawn thousands of fans. They had half dozen players in the National Football Team selected for their beautiful play and knowledge of the game.
