At least 12 people were killed Monday in a bombing in a busy market in the southern city of Baidoa, witnesses and officials said. At least 35 people were wounded and taken to a Baidoa hospital, a nurse there said. The Shabab militant group claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was intended to strike a blow against Somali and Ethiopian troops stationed in the city. Baidoa was a major militant base until Ethiopian troops and Somali soldiers seized the town in February. The African Union plans to send more troops to Baidoa soon.
